Squishy

On my way into work today, I cut across a parking lot. I looked and lo and behold I spot something. It looks like it might be a penny. I pick it up and sure enough it is a penny but given its state, I can't tell you the year or country of origin. This penny has definitely seen better days.

Then on my way home, heading to the GO station, I was crossing Front Street where I noticed a penny on the road, about a foot away from the sidewalk.  It was in front of this building (see left). Can you guess what that building is? (hint it's on the south side of Front St, west of Simcoe)

Total find today 2¢.

On the right side of the track

What a bad day. I got up and arrived at the train station with time to spare. I was walking to the platform and there was not a soul in site. There was no mass exodus just me and one other person who looked just as confused as I felt. We both check the schedule and it turns out we missed the train by three minutes. They had changed the time on a few of the departure times so my early train now leaves 5 minutes earlier. And I am so not a morning person.

Anyway, now that I had time to spare, I decided to walk to the benches to have a seat and read my book. And there, I spotted a penny (year 1999) near the tracks. Maybe the morning wasn't so bad after all.

On the Line

My didn't start off very well today. I was having the best sleep. Felt my dog jump on the bed so I peeled my eyes open, looked at the alarm clock and panicked. Seems I turned off the alarm in error and about the time I should be leaving the house, I was just getting up. That was the bad thing.

The good thing was I found a penny in the GO parking lot. I was leaving spot where I parked my car and was rushing to the train platform when I spotted it, lying on the line - a US penny. I'm having trouble uploading the picture I took of it. Will try tomorrow. Perhaps the technology will be more co-operative tomorrow.

Guess what, today is tomorrow and technology cooperated.
 Here's the picture:

Friday's Finds

I found 11¢ on Friday but I didn't have time to write about them til today (Sunday).

The first coin was found during my morning break. My friend and I decided to take a walk around the block since it was such a lovely morning. In front of the David Pecaut Square sign I spotted a 1974 penny. It was resting beside a screw. What was a screw doing on King Street and where did it come from? Good questions to which I have not the answers.

We are thinking about getting another car. We went to a dealership in our neighbourhood and took a Nissan 370 Roadster for a test drive - fun car, small but fun. When we returned to the dealership and I was talking my purse out of the back, I spotted a dime beside the driver's seat. Don't know if it was mine and fell out of my purse or it fell out of the pocket of a previous test driver. In any case, it's mine now - a 2011 dime found in a 2011 car.

Better than a penny

What a hot day today was - high of 30 but felt like 39. Almost felt like you were melting.
One of the nice thing about summer in the city is all the activity that abounds.

I went on my usual lunch time stroll. On my way back to the office I decided to detour into Tim Horton's and get a lemonade - mmmmm yum. Very refreshing for a hot day like today. When I left Timmies,  I could hear music so I went to check it out. On Duncan, just north of King they were filming something so I went to investigate. And who should I see bouncing around on the roof of a car, dressed in a black jacket in this sweltering heat - Jake Hoggard of Hedly. He's much cuter in person than on the screen. They were filming a music video. I tried to snap a photo of him but every time I snapped my camera, he turned his head.

So no coins today but here's a photo of Jake in action.

Sunday Cent

Happy Father's Day to all the fathers and potential father's out there.

I did some quick grocery shopping today - just needed to pick up a few things for lunches but of course you always wind up picking up a few extra things and next thing you know your bill is huge. The grocery store is actually a great place to hang out in this hot, muggy weather. It's nice and cool inside.

Anyway, I bought my stuff, left the store, unloaded the bags from the cart into my car and wandered over to the cart depot to return my cart. When I returned to my car, the vehicle that was beside me left and in it's spot was a 2000 penny.  Lucky me. But I forgot my camera at home so sadly no photo.

The Office Dime

This morning, I'm at work walking out of our kitchen to my workstation when I notice a coin by the wall between our kitchen and the stock room. Because my hands are full (have my teapot and my mug), I can't pick it up.

I put my stuff on my desk, grab my camera, return to the location of the lost coin, snap a picture and pocket the coin which happens to be a 2011 US dime and return to my workstation.

Not a bad way to start my day - a dime richer.

By the way, did you know that today was National Flip Flop Day? I kid you not. Hope you celebrated by wearing your favourite flip flops.

The Wellington Pennies

Today was Thursday. It was bright, sunny, not to hot and not muggy at all.  I wouldn't mind it being a few degrees warmer but I'm not complaining.

Do you see it?
I'm not sure what platform my morning train usually uses when it arrives at Union Station but today it was platform Thirteen. Lucky 13, I thought to myself and guess what, it was lucky 13. I found two pennies today.

The first one I found just before I arrived at my building. There's lots of stuff happening around my office building - Luminato and the Thursday Farmers Market has started up. What does that mean? It means lots of trucks, trailers and fencing. I was walking on the north side of Wellington and just before I got to my building penny number one was waiting for me (a 2006 penny).

Here's the other one
The second one I found during my morning break. My co-worker and I were heading to one of the many coffee shops in the area. We headed west on Wellington on the north side of street. We were about 100 or so feet from John Street when I spotted penny number 2. This one was a 2010.

Two for Thursday. Not too bad.

Frederick Street Coins

My last night class of the semester. How exciting for me.

I wanted to review my stuff before my class so I headed south from my office to Front Street and then east along Front Street to the library. They recently renovated this library. The reno has opened this things up and they moved book shelves around. It looks nice.

Tonight, the library was busy which is good for the library but sucky for me - no empty tables for me to park my butt and review stuff so I headed to the campus.

See the new water pipes?
Summer time is road construction time in Toronto and Front Street is one of the many roads under repair. I headed west from the library along Front and north on Frederick Street (like this photo of the street sign?) Frederick Street seems to be a storage spot for construction material.

Can you find the 1999 coin?
Spotted coin on location
As I headed north on Frederick Street, on the east side, I spotted not one but two coins: a 1999 penny and a spotted 2010 penny. They were opposite each other.

American Graffiti

I went on a great lunch time adventure today with a co-worker. There is this alleyway near my office that is graffiti heaven. All the buildings are covered in graffiti. Rick Mercer does his rants in this alley.

Boring dime
Interesting artwork
Anyway, my co-worker Cathie is an amateur photographer and wanted to take some pictures there. She knows I like to walk and invited me along. I was more than happy to go. It was a beautiful sunny - perfect for Friday afternoon walk.  As we turned down the alley, the first thing I spotted besides the amazing artwork on the wall was a US dime.  I fitting I find a dime in Graffiti Alley.

Most of the graffiti there was pretty amazing. It spans many city blocks, so many that we didn't even see it all. That's for another lunch time adventure. Anyway, I wanted share a couple more graffiti pics with you.

Tim's Penny

I was off work today. Wasn't feeling well so I stayed home to recover.  After my early afternoon doctor's appointment I popped into the Tim Horton's I passed on my way and got my daughter (and me) an Ice Cap.

While I was waiting for it to be made, I spotted a penny on the ground just waiting for me to pick it up. Turns out it was 2004 penny that has now joined all my other lost coins in the lost coin piggy bank.

In case you're wondering, the ice cap was good. I haven't had one in a long time and it seemed to be just what the doctor ordered, or should have ordered anyway.

Today's we had a bit of everything: sun, clouds, thunder and rain. We also had sun shower that resulted in a beautiful rain just beyond my neighbour's house. Just wanted to share it with you.

College Coin

Tuesday nights I take a course at one a community college. So as mentioned in previous entries, I walk from my office to the college. Normally I enter the college through the main doors and take the elevator to the 4th floor. Today, I decide to the stairs from King up to the 2nd floor patio (which leads to floor 2 1/2 at the college) and take the stairs to the 4th floor.

And as I predicted yesterday, I found a coin today. And I wasn't a slug and wrote about it the day I found it. And I remembered to bring my camera and took pictures of it. (Do you like the over-use of "and"?) Tucked into a crevice of one of the wooden benches on this patio was a 2010 dime. It was peeking out of its hiding spot.
There it is, close up.

Can you spot the coin?

The Life of a Slug

Seems that I have become a slug. And when the slug shows up, it's hard to get rid of. Not sure why.
But I have succeeded overcoming the slug and getting back into writing. (I was only slug like in my writing world it seems. My other world was busy.)

I had found three coins in the last week and a half and have some catching up to do.

On May 24, my teenager needed the car for school and since she can't drive standard, she borrowed my husband's car who in turn borrowed my card which meant that I was inconvenienced and needed to be picked up from the GO train station. And she was late. So while I was waiting around for her at the GO station after work, I spotted a 2006 nickel. Everyone else was gone by the time my ride showed up.

Then, on May 29, I went on my usual lunch time adventure and my eagle eye spotted a 2008 dime on the sewer grate (on Peter Street). I was lucky I didn't get hit by a car when I snapped that photo.

The last coin I found was on May 30. I was out for lunch (not out to lunch) with some work friends. On the way back to the office I found a penny that looked like it had seen better days. In the fact, the year is hard to make out.

So now I'm all caught up, ready to blog about my next find which will be tomorrow, I hope.
